Tweed Valley Justices Association Inc., - Voluntarily Serving The People Of Northern NSW
ABOUT US

Tweed Valley Justices' Association Inc., was formed in January 1998 and has continued to grow and develop over the years.   Our 10 year Anniversary function was held early in 2008 when we honored our Foundation Members and those who have been continual members for 10 years.
We aim to continue to encourage membership from all local JPs

The Justice & Attorney-General amended the rules for all JPs in 2003 stating that all current JPs were required to re-apply and become appointed under the new regulations.   This means that all JPs now must have a registration number beginning with 100,000 and any document that is witnessed by a JP must have the registration number recorded with the signature.  Regulations also included that JPs operate under a new Code of Conduct which establishes acceptable standards of conduct for JPs appointed in NSW under the Justices of the Peace Act 2002.

There are 16 points covered by the Code of Conduct which must be strictly adhered to or face the consequences of losing your appointment.   There is also a new Handbook which was released in August 2008 and this document is the only one that should be used for reference by JPs throughout the State.

New Rulings 001 & 002 have  been issued by the Attorney General.  Ruling 003 has just been issued.

Facial Recognition was introduced into the NSW Parliament in 2011.
NOTE:  Effective from 30th April, 2012, there are new requirements for when a JP witnesses a person's NSW Statutory Declaration or Affidavit.   JP's MUST take specific, additional steps to confirm the identity of the person.

It is very important that every JP in NSW is aware of the new requirements.  This is because a JP who does not comply with them is guilty of a criminal offense and can be fined.  $220.00.
